International Women's Day Tour of Amsterdam
Celebrate the female heroes that have shaped Amsterdam's history!
SANDEMANs NEW Europe, the world’s largest city walking tour company, will be offering female-focussed tours on Friday, March 8th for International Women’s Day.
With 16 of SANDEMANs’ 20 cities of operation taking part, the special International Women’s Day tours will shine a light on the contributions that women have made to these cities.
Says SANDEMANs CEO David O’Kelly, “Too often the history of these cities, and indeed most cities, is told from the male perspective, forgetting the sizeable contributions that some truly remarkable women have made. We know that the local guides we work with really enjoyed researching these women and creating these tours, and are excited to share their stories with our guests from around the world.”
While some of history’s better-known women are profiled in the tours, such as Marie Curie in Paris, J.K. Rowling in Edinburgh and Anne Frank in Amsterdam, some unsung heroines will also be celebrated on the tours, such as politician Milada Horáková in Prague and dancer and LGBT activist Tortola Valencia in Seville.
All participants on the SANDEMANs International Women’s Day tours will receive a free International Women’s Day badge.
