Dear guests,

During the following weeks, our tours (except the Pub Crawl) will temporarily be starting a little further up the Royal Mile; right in front of the Frankie and Benny’s restaurant (130 High Street, Royal Mile - Edinburgh, EH1 1QS). Please keep an eye out for the guides with the red SANDEMANs’ umbrella.

Thank you for your understanding.

Edinburgh Castle dominates one of the world’s most heroic and bloody national histories. It stands on Castle Rock, a dead volcano which was cut to its hard basalt core in the Ice Age, with the Old Town now nestling in its geological shadow. Despite the seemingly impenetrable defences, the castle’s past is riddled with dramatic conquests, captures and tales of destruction. Today, however, it is one of the quietest places in the city, far above the busy streets of Edinburgh, with breathtaking views across South West Scotland.

The Castle’s crucial role in the history of Scotland and Great Britain is obvious from the acclaimed museums and memorials within. Make the most of your visit to Scotland’s most popular visitor attraction, with an expert guide who will lead you around the upper end of the Royal Mile and throughout your trip to the Castle, show you things all other visitors miss, and ensure you get the best value for your time and money. After the tour through the Castle, guests are welcome to stay as long as they like, until closing time. No visit to Scotland is complete without visiting this number one visitor attraction in the country!

Please be aware that Edinburgh Castle stays open until 5pm and your Castle Ticket is only valid on the day of purchase. You will have 1½ hours to explore the Castle after the tour, but for a longer visit you will have to purchase a new ticket on a different day.

Children (5 or under) accompanied by an adult can join the Edinburgh Castle Tour for free.

*Average tour length. The independent guides with whom we work have your best interests in mind; while the tour usually includes the sites and stories above and lasts this long, your tour may vary depending on what your guide thinks is best for your group!
