ABOUT THE International Women’s Day Tour of Copenhagen

From political prisoners to royalty, from goddesses to trailblazing artists, there is no doubt that women have transformed Denmark into the country it is today. Join us as we explore some of the memorials, locations and statues around Copenhagen that commemorate these great women.

Our special International Women’s Day Tour celebrates the female heroes who have shaped our history!

Learn about Leonora Christina, daughter of the King and polictical prisoner, who published her still popular autobiography after spending 20 years in a dungeon. Hear about the struggles and bravery of Lili Elbe, a successful painter and one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery, and also her talented wife Gerda Wegener, whom she married in 1904. Discover the Norse goddess Gefjon, and learn about the role of women in Viking society.
