Dear guests,

During the following weeks, our tours (except the Pub Crawl) will temporarily be starting a little further up the Royal Mile; right in front of the Frankie and Benny’s restaurant (130 High Street, Royal Mile - Edinburgh, EH1 1QS). Please keep an eye out for the guides with the red SANDEMANs’ umbrella.

Thank you for your understanding.

FAQs

Answers to our general questions

Reserve or pop along

Reservations for the FREE and select tours are not strictly necessary, unless your group exceeds 10 people. However, on days with a particularly high demand, priority will be given to those with online bookings, and any remaining spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you are wanting to have a private tour, reservations are a must.

Rain or shine, our tours will run

The FREE Tour and the select tours run year-round, in all weather, and also on public holidays.

Theoretically, there is no maximum number of people allowed on the tours, as we will always try to ensure that we have as many freelance guides at the start point as necessary to accommodate all guests.  However, on particularly busy days, it is possible that we may limit the number of places we offer to ensure that the group sizes remain manageable, safe and enjoyable.  By booking online for the FREE Tour, not only will you help us with our capacity planning, but your online booking will ensure that you are given a space on the tour, provided you are there at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.  Groups of 10 or more are required to book at least 24 hours in advance to assist with this capacity planning.

What time do I need to show up for my tour?

Please try to arrive for your tour 10 – 15 minutes before the allotted start time. In doing so you ensure that the tour can leave on time and subsequently you get more time with your amazing guide. If you arrive late your place maybe given to another guest.

Do the FREE Tours include the entrance fees to the places of interest?

The FREE tour does not visit any places that require an entrance fee.

Two in a day?

Yes! In fact, it is possible to do more than two, an example being the FREE Tour at 11AM, followed by the Castle Tour, and then rounding out the day with either the Dark Side Tour or the Pub Crawl.

Are the tours wheelchair accessible?

Due to the old streets and uneven terrain, accessing parts of Edinburgh by wheelchair can sometimes be challenging. While the FREE Tour, New Town Tour, Castle Tour and Pub Crawl are wheelchair accessible when accompanied by an able-bodied participant, we unfortunately do not advise guests in wheelchairs to join the Dark Side Tour, due to the narrow stairways and steep hills. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.

How long?

The FREE Tour and New Town tours are roughly 2.5 hours long, while the Dark Side Tour is approximately two hours long and the Castle Tour is about 1.5 hours long. However, your freelance guide may adjust the tour length depending on the comfort and interests of you and your group. The Pub Crawl does not have a set tour length; it is determined by the energy levels of the individual participant!

Do the Spanish tours only run during the summer?

The Spanish tours, like our other tours, also run year-round.

What languages are the tours offered in?

All tours are available in English and Spanish, and the FREE Tour and Castle Tour are also available in German Thursday through Sunday. Additional languages may be available as a private tour - please contact our Private Tours department by emailing [email protected] or calling +49 (0)30 510 500 30.

Does the Pub Crawl meet at the same spot every night?

Yes, the meeting spot is always the same; just look for our team in their signature red SANDEMANs NEW Europe t-shirts or jackets! Check out the Pub Crawl tour page for the exact location.

On which days does the Pub Crawl take place?

The Pub Crawl is now offered seven days a week, in all weather, and on all public holidays.

Does one need to reserve a spot on the Pub Crawl?

No, and the more the merrier! If you would like to arrange a private Pub Crawl email us at [email protected] or call us on +49 (0)30 510 500 30.

Will it be hard or unsafe to get home from the Pub Crawl?

If you are at all concerned about getting home, our guides are always more than willing to give you directions.
