Questions about the tours

Do the tours run despite bad weather conditions and public holidays?
Yes, our tours will still run on public holidays and in spite of bad weather conditions, unless the safety of our guests is compromised.

Is there a maximum or minimum number of people allowed on a tour?
We have no minimum for most of the tours. In terms of the maximum, we work hard to achieve an average group size of 26 PAX and we will always try to keep numbers under 30. However, 40 is our absolute maximum. There are always multiple guides to ensure that everyone can be accommodated. If you are planning on joining the tour with a group larger than ten people, reservations are required so that we can be sure to have an appropriate number of staff members at the tour starting point on the given day.

What languages are the tours offered in?
All our tours are offered in both English and Spanish. Further languages may be available as a private tour. If you would more information about a private tour, please send us an email to [email protected]

Can children attend the tours?
Children under 13 accompanied by a parent are welcome on any of our tours for free. There is no need to book for them and they can sign up directly without pre-booking. If the tour requires transport, then transportation fees must be paid for the child at the beginning of the tour.

Is it possible to do two tours in one day?
Yes! In fact, it is possible to do more than two in a day. An example would be the Free Tour in the morning, followed by the North Side Tour in the afternoon before finishing off the night with the Pub Crawl. Please see specific tour times and days for more information about combining tours.

Can I join the tours halfway?
Due to organizational reasons, it is not possible to join any tour halfway. If you would like to do the tour, please do everything you can to make it to the start point on time and we will be more than happy to welcome you!

We understand that this might not be ideal for you but please take into account that you will be participating in a group tour with other guests, therefore picking up people halfway will inconvenience the whole group. We appreciate  your understanding on this matter.

Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
The North Side Tour is wheelchair accessible. While the majority of the regularly scheduled Free Tour route is wheelchair accessible, there is one section of the tour which has stairs without a ramp or elevator alternative. This staircase, which the group typically walks up, is fairly wide if the person is accompanied by some able-bodied people who might be able to assist them. Several venues on the Pub Crawl are unfortunately on the first level of the buildings they occupy, in buildings that unfortunately do not have elevator or ramp alternatives. The Howth Day Tour is a day of walking up hills and across cliffs, with dirt paths in many areas, and so unfortunately is not accessible by wheelchair. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.

Is the transportation fee included in the ticket price?
Free Tour of Dublin doesn’t require public transportation.
Howth Day Tour includes transportation fee.
North Side Tour doesn’t require public transportation.
Dublin Pub Crawl doesn’t require public transportation.

Does the Free Tour include the entrance fees to the places of interest?
The Dublin Free Tour does not require any additional entry fees, as there are no places included in the tour that require one.

What time do I need to show up for my tour?
Please be at the meeting point of the tour 10 to 15 minutes before its starting time. This way we will be able to organize the groups and to make sure the tour runs on time.

How long is my tour?
The Free Tour and North Side Tour are around 2.5 - 3 hours, while the Howth Day Tour lasts about 7 hours. However, your freelance guide may adjust the tour length depending on the comfort and interests of you and your group. The Pub Crawl does not have a set tour length; it is determined by the energy levels of the individual participant!

You will be able to find the meeting point of the tour, along with all the relevant information, including a brief description and list of highlights to see during the tour here:

How do I find the starting point of my tour?
You can find all our start points on our website by clicking on "Tours" on the main menu and choosing your tour from the left hand side menu. You can also find it on the pdf ticket you received when booking the tour. To make things easier for you, we have summaried here our meeting points:

Free Tour of Dublin starts at the Barnardo Square next to City Hall (click here to open on Google Maps).
Howth Day Tour starts at the Barnardo Square next to City Hall (click here to open on Google Maps).
North Side Tour starts at the Barnardo Square next to City Hall (click here to open on Google Maps).
Dublin Pub Crawl starts at the entrance to Bad Bobs, in the heart of Dublin's famous Temple Bar (click here to open on Google Maps).

Where does my tour end?
Unfortunately, we can't say exactly where any tour end because the guides we work with are freelancers. This means that although they visit all the places we advertise, they are at liberty to plan their route as they feel is best, so we cannot say for certain which order the guides will visit places in. If you ask at the beginning of the tour, the guide will be happy to let you know where she/he plans to take the group. However, here is a list of the approximate ending points for our tours:

Free Tour of Dublin usually ends by Trinity College.
Howth Day Tour ends at around 4pm in Howth Village, very close to the train station. The guests have open return train tickets and can return to Dublin city centre with the guide or stay in Howth. Trains run every 30 minutes and it's only 25 minutes to the city.
North Side Tour usually ends by the Famine Memorial or the Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship (Custom House Quay, North Dock, Dublin 1).
Dublin Pub Crawl usually ends at Bad Bobs (Essex St East, Temple Bar, Dublin 2).

What is the itinerary of my tour?
Unfortunately, we cannot tell you the exact itinerary of your tour as the guides we work with are freelancers, which means that although they visit all the places we advertise they are at liberty to plan their route as they feel is best, so we cannot say for certain in which order the guides will visit the highlights.

Does the Pub Crawl meet at the same spot every night?
Yes, the meeting spot is always the same; just look for our team in their signature red SANDEMANs NEW Europe t-shirts or jackets! Check out the Pub Crawl tour page for the exact location.

Will it be hard or unsafe to get home from the Pub Crawl?
The Pub Crawl guides will give you detailed instructions on how to get back to certain parts of the city from the final Pub Crawl stop.

Questions about bookings

Do I need to book a Free Tour or a select (paid) tour in advance?
No, it is not a problem for you to show up directly at the meeting point 10 to 15 minutes before the tour starts and register yourself on the spot with one of our representatives*. However, booking your Free Tour or paid tour in advance will help us plan ahead and decide how many guides we will need on a given day. On busy days with higher demand for our services and limited spaces on the tours, priority will be given to those who have pre-booked.

*The Free Tour is intended for small groups and individual travelers. If you are joining with a group of 10 or more people, pre-booking the tour is necessary, and you will be asked for a small per person reservation fee. On paid tours, discounts are available for groups of 10 or more people when booking online, and 5% discounts are automatically applied for any person booking more than one paid tour.

Does one need to reserve a spot on the Pub Crawl?
No, and the more the merrier! If you would like to arrange a private Pub Crawl, however, email us at [email protected] or call us on +49 30 510 50030.

How do I book a tour online?
If you want to book a tour online, you just need to head to our website, and select the city where you want to join the tour in. To do that, please click on the “Search by city” button and pick your destination city. Then choose the tour you want to take part in and click on the button “BOOK NOW!”. The booking form with a calendar with the dates, hours and languages we offer the tour will pop up.

How can I book a private tour?
For those families, couples or groups looking for a more personal experience with a private tour guide, then a private tour would be your best choice! Your private tour guide can pick you up from your hotel, you can suggest your preferred starting time and even adjust the content to your preferences. You can book a private tour starting from €120 / £130 / 1080 DKK per tour guide booked. To book a private tour, please click here.

How far in advance can I book a tour?
You can book the tour as much far in advance as you like. If you book more than two months ahead, we recommend you to check the schedules and starting points on our website closer to your tour date, as our tours are subject to schedule changes. However, we will normally let you know via email about those changes before the tour takes place.

How can I reschedule or cancel my Free Tour?
If it is a reservation for the Free Tour for a group of nine people or less, you can make a new reservation without having to cancel your previous booking, or simply go on another time and date to the meeting point 5 to 10 minutes before the tour starts and speak directly with our representative there.

How can I reschedule or cancel my select tour?
If you want to reschedule your select tour, please send an email to [email protected] with the name of the city you are doing the tour in, your booking reference number and  the new date to join the tour. We will be more than happy to assist you.

As you will see on the Terms & Conditions in our booking process, SANDEMANs NEW Europe has a no refund policy unless we are at fault for the cancellation of your tour. However, if you let us know more than 24 hours before the start of the tour and we will credit you with 50% of the purchase price which can be used towards the purchase of additional tours.
